ZHUHAI has 21 projects in the 2010 Guangdong Key Construction Projects Programme drafted at the 3rd Session of the 11th Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress that closed last Tuesday. The plan encompasses 300 provincial key projects costing 2.2 trillion yuan ($322 billion).
The 21 projects include the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity MRT, Zhuhai Gaolan Port and Airport expressways, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Gaolan Port Area Main Channel, ship container and bulk terminal, LNG project first phase, South China Sea natural gas field land terminal, Hengqin Island multiple combined supply gas-engine generators, Shizimen Central Business District, Chime Long International ocean sightseeing, Ocean Spring Resort second phase and Gaolan Port Economic Zone infrastructure and support facilities.
Of the provincial projects, 53 have just come into production and 60 are under construction. The programme states that the projects will boost economic integration of the Pearl River Delta and drive economic growth in terms of infrastructure integration. A Pearl River Delta intercity rail transit with Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai forming the main hub and linking major towns of the PRD will be constructed. Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao cross-boundary transport infrastructure also will be boosted.
An intercity public transport card will be in use all over the Pearl River Delta within five years, Guangdong Communications Department Director He Zhongyou said at a press conference.
Mutual recognition of annual vehicle tickets in Zhuhai, Zhongshan and Jiangmen took effect at the beginning of this year, which is a major breakthrough towards PRD integration, He announced.
