AmCham Macau Chairman, Charles Choy, stated in his welcoming remarks that, “with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge under construction and the Hengqin New Area Development Planning in place, I believe both projects will help maintain the long-term prosperity and also promote the economic diversification in Macau.” While the constructing of the bridge will benefit the economic development of the whole of the Delta, the development of Hengqin Island will allow Macau to develop a link (both economical and political) for new cooperation between Macau and its motherland. Choy also mentioned the Chamber’s plan in establishing a “PRD Committee” to the current Chamber structure to support and explore further collaboration with the Governments within the Region.

Director Niu expressed gratitude to the support from the Chamber and all attending guests on the development plans of Hengqin Island. Director Niu agreed that the overall development plan of Hengqin will be beneficial to the PRD region, especially to Macau. The Administrative Committee is confident that Hengqin “is to become the maestro of closer cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao”. The Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area will continue to strengthen ties between the Macau community, including AmCham Macau, and its counterparts, in order to explore future business opportunities together.
