I am interested to get a new small or medium sedan car, but I do not have idea where and what car to get. Any recommendation? For the brand of the car, may I ask who can recommend the brand that has the lowest depreciation and easiest to sell to 2nd hand car shop in the future. Should I go for overseas brand (like Honda, Toyota, VW, etc) or should I go for local brand (like BYD,etc)?

You can checkout online websites like www.51auto.com to get an idea of price/models etc.

BTW, if you use Google Chrome browser it will translate it all into your language instead of Chinese and you can get a general idea. After that you are better of finding a car from a local dealer so he can help you with all the paperwork etc.

Many of the local dealers park their cars outside and have websites where you can checkout the cars at your leisure.

Cars are clearly way more expensive here than USA.

I will recommend honda city. Sister version of Honda Civic and made in GuangZhou. Reliablity of Honda and budget of local brand (maybe little more). I will get new car specially with smog regulation keep changing this days. Remember This is China, they tax your by engine size so you want to smallest engine with the best horsepower

We recently bought a Peugeot 207 and am very happy with it! Great value for the money. Small, good power, electronic windows, good stereo, etc. They helped with getting insurance and plates too.

We tried many different dealerships and I have to say that Honda was one of the worse places to serve us. We couldn't test drive the car properly. They wouldn't let us take it out of the parking lot? How can you test drive a car if you can't get it out of first gear?

Toyota was pretty bad too. They said they couldn't order us a standard/manual car even from the factory. What kind of place doesn't sell standard/manual alongside with automatics?

We don't think that new cars are as expensive as in Canada. Used cars are almost as expensive as a new car. How reliable and trustworthy can the used cars be? What if the person wasn't telling us the truth about what accidents the car had been (if any) or whether regular maintenance had been done, etc? We don't know any reliable car mechanics to take a used car to in order to get it properly checked out. We felt way more comfortable with spending a bit more money for a brand new car that would be under warranty.

Good luck with your car hunting!

I just bought a used car and the process was extraordinarily smooth and quick. Everything was finished the same day including new license plates on the car. The dealer took care of everything including registration, title change, insurance as well as other stuff like inspection etc. They just had me go to some places and sit around while they did it. Of course, my Chinese friend followed on all of it so everything was being done correctly. They charged me 250RMB for doing everything and besides this I had to pay exact fees for everything else.

The dealer sells all types of used cars for all price ranges. They seems very honest and the car i have bought is very perfect for the price.

Please PM me if you are interested. The places is very near to my house so if you don't speak Chinese I guess I could accompany you and you could check out a few cars with them just to get an idea.

After looking around for some time and visiting dealers in Guangzhou and Zhuhai, studying some car fora on the internet, crash test results and safety features on different car models, we ordered a new Roewe 350D-AT today. For us the most important decision factors were safety because of the risks on chinese roads, and value for money within our budget. With respect to safety, the only cars to meet our standards were Volkswagen Polo, Ford Focus and Roewe 350. The last car offered the most for the money, had the best safety features, most space in this price-bracket and the Zhuhai dealer offered the best deal. Guangzhou dealer tried to sell us from stock they had by stating the color/model we wanted was out of program which I knew to be untrue-so no deal there.(and he wanted 50% downpayment, in Zhuhai only 5.000 Y) The Ford dealer in Zhuhai had a good offer too, Volkawagen Zhuhai could not give any discount.
The sales process not really different from elswhere in the world, I bought 36 cars before in my life, it all had a familiar feel this time again...

Congratulations for buying a new Roewe 350! I think it's perfect for family to use. It's really a good model i suggest my guests to buy. But In my opinion, if you want to sell to 2nd hand car shop in the future, is not so easy because Roewe is the non-mainstream brand in China.Especially in Zhuhai, guangdong. But if you plan to use it for a long time, it's no effect for you.

Hehe, the first thing you should buy is cover for your license plate.
Traffic camera are everywhere and they are 200 yuan per shoot. They now include seatbeat, smoking and cigarette infractions.

In Zhuhai you have a lot of places... I bought mine, new one, but they have a second hand with all the history of each car, in this street where you can see all the Agents for Honda, Suzuki, VW, Nissan, Buick, Benz and more.

Good luck,

Xiolinhas

Plan to use the car for a longer time indeed. Up till now it's been great driving in it, nice navigation system updated via G3 (car has internet with Android)makes going around easy in the Delta area.

I had a Rowe 350T Model, the one with the turbo, ordered it from the dealership, manual, GPS the works. Decent car for the money, will last you and Rowe stands behind its warranties. Drove it for 2 years and put about 30k kms on it back and forth to Doumen and to Shenzhen, decent car and never let me down. Upgraded to BMW thereafter and had lots of problems and now drive a Nissan Teeana on a daily basis and have an imported C63 Mbz. The Teeana I drive mostly and other than replacing on warranty the GPS 4 times has been ok, the C63 has only 2k Kms and is problem free thus far..
