Any more details and insights on this? I am googling but so far not much about requirements. Will it be easier to apply for this permit or just stay on a multiple tourist visa?
Thanks :o)

So, what would the requirement to apply for such residency for senior citizens? What documents would they need?

I can not answer your question but wanted to comment on "or just stay on a multiple tourist visa?"

You can get a six month or one year F class, business visa. Very easy to get but not cheap.

thanks! But F isn't a desirable option. According to the new law relatives of Chinese citizens or foreigners residing here don't need to apply for residency outside of China. They come on a tourist and get residency here. This means that those of
You who reside here and those who are married get up to 2 years of residency. It used to be a tourist visa before.
We have asked someone to consult local immigration bureau. So will update when I have more info.

So, immigration claims that in China parents can only be dependent if one of the spouses is Chinese. While I have few friends in various places in China who are foreigners and they have parents living with them and are dependent on their visas. Weird! Need more investigation into the matter.

Since I am married to a Chinese national I have been getting a one year/multiple entry tourist visa from the Zhuhai entry/exit bureau for the past couple of years. This year, when I went to renew my visa, I asked about the new law and was told that I could get a multiple year permit after I turned 60.

But a new twist on the 1 year visa...they told me I needed to get a physical examination (at the approved place). After getting the physical they gave me a 1 year residence permit instead of a tourist visa. I thought that was kinda neat even though I had to shell out a few extra dollars for the physical.

That's great! In fact you could ask for 2 year residency as well. Next time you extend you could inquire about it.
We were also told that now overseas Chinese can buy a house here and get a visa based on that.
