Does anyone know a good driver with a nice car and a big boot (trunk) who can collect two people from GuangZhou airport at around midnight. I would drive there myself, but I may be a tad too pregnant to make the journey by then and don't fancy a 'roadside birth'!

Also what would be the charge to Zhuhai, just to give me an idea

Ta very much

Try this driver - Charlie. Speaks English. Lives in Tanjia. 13425015744 He is trustworthy and his car is very clean and nice. If he can't do it himself, perhaps he can recommend someone.
I think not less than 300-400 RMB. Probably more (if it is at night - more like 500-600?? Can't say for sure but couple years ago in-laws went to US Embassy with a driver who waited for them and it came to around 650 RMB). I know one way from Tanjia to our location is 70-80RMB.

Yourself you may not even be able to enter Guangzhou as they have some weird thing about number plates from other cities (even and odd days???).

He knows Zhuhai very well as he's been driving people for many years and he's been driving foreigners as well for a while all over the place.

Yes, D Day is today! Thank you! xoxo

Here's one more: Mr Chen. He lives in my area but knows the city well. He drives a very nice clean Suziki. I don't know if he does Guangzhou runs but you could ask anyway:

Why don't just take the bus from Guangzhou airport to Zhuhai,it's as safe, easier and much cheaper.

Because there is no bus at midnight :)

And there are usually no bathrooms on the bus, so travellers who have been "hydrating" on the plane might need a bathroom break during the trip to Zhuhai.

Non Guangzhou cars pay toll when they enter the city proper. One can drive around Guangzhou following the S81 Ringroad. This is not weird, many cities have toll for no-city plates. In Zhuhai there was still toll for non C S or T plates (Zhuhai, Dongguan, Zhongshan)last year

I think I may try to drive myself there, should'd be too hard should it? Just take some hot water and blankets incase the baby comes!!!!! Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. It's my parents who are coming and as they are both OAP's and will have already endured a 24 hour journey, even if there was a bus, I would never make them take it!!

So another question, is it that far & how are the roads to the airport? Relatively easy or a pain in the backside??

Roads are fine and quite smooth - at least I always enjoyed going by bus, By bus takes a bit over 2 hours. By car - depends on your speed.
You have to investigate whether you can go to Guangzhou with your plates though or not. Not sure where it could be done.

I think what Ronny said sounds OK! I'll do some investigating though as we'd have the same issues hiring a car from Zhuhai anyway if that was the case. I just don't need the stresses of the parents getting lost or the car not collecting them etc. We've enough on our plate with the arrival of Didi!

Taffy, it is a really easy drive, highway all the way, and not hard to get a park if you need to.

going from Zhuhai to guangzhou airport costs at least 800 by taxi because the new guangzhou airport is quite faraway from the downtown area.at night and need to wait ,I think you might have to pay over 1000RMB.

why not choose a plane that will arrive at daytime?it would be cheaper and safer traveling on the highway at daytime.

Bless you BB, 你太可爱!

Flying from the UK you have limited plane times as it is an international flight. We also have to take into account leaving times from the UK, connecting flight waiting times - which we have already done when purchasing the ticket. Also the return flight plays a part in the flight arrival times into China, so unless we charter a plane we have to take the best that we can and that is an arrival at 11:30PM into GZ!

Driving at night is actually safer than during the day as there are less cars on the road and the cost to hire a driver from ZH to GZ airport at this time of night is between 600 - 750RMB. Alternatively, I tap tap the address into my GPS and take myself there, it is only a 4 hour round trip so not really that hard to do!
