Curated by James Chu, this exhibition showcases the latest works of young local artist Tong Chong and embraces his output of the past two years, including twelve paintings and two wood sculptures.
Tong Chong graduated from the School of Arts of Macao Polytechnic Institute and has exhibited solo in both Shanghai and Macao. Since 1993, Tong’s works have not only received various awards but been displayed in international exhibitions.
Tong's new works project a stronger, more ‘refined taste’. From the heavy use of ‘symbols’ to the simple yet affirmative composition, one can readily sense a great leap in the rendering of his personal style and creativity The rustic, simplistic characteristics of his paintings externally integrate elements of calligraphy and folk arts, while internally reflecting his personal thinking and perception of creativity. He seeks to reflect his personal understanding of his living surroundings through his works.
